A Letter from HU Intern, Kori Goooood Morning!  For those of you hunger fighters coming back from spring break, let me just say, I feel your pain! It’s Monday again and it’s time to get back to the grind. Hopefully you remember where you left your books and you didn’t forget to do the random assignment that one professor assigned for your first day back. If you start struggling through the day like I know I will, think back to the good times of laziness, fun and friends that we all so badly already miss. For those of you just starting spring break… I don’t want to talk about it. Whether you are kickin’ it on the beach or in the classroom this week, make sure you’re rocking your finest hunger fighting gear, like my personal favorite The Classic! We are very excited here at HALF UNITED to be partnering with a middle school in our local community! DC Virgo Preparatory Academy was shut down in 2010 due to a lack of government funding and has just opened back up for the 2012-2013 school year. They only have a 6th grade class right now and are hoping to eventually become a full middle school again, but not without the help of some amazing community partners. We will be working with DC Virgo Preparatory Academy to help plant a community garden to empower the youth at the school. This will provide fresh vegetables not only for eating, but for learning as well. The whole team is really excited to be empowering the youth that live in our own neighborhood. We are also hoping to work with the backpack program at the school and provide food for the children to take home with them on the weekends! With the school being located just down the street from our Headquarters we are going to be able to really build sustainable relationships with the teachers and students here.
